Crans-Montana is a small Swiss village with a population of 10.000 inhabitans in the Canton of Valois, in the Sierre District. Located on a plateau looking over the Rhone Valley, at 1500m, the near stations of Crans and Montana become one of the biggest tourist destinations of the Canton. The strength points of these two twin stations are the amazing view of peaks like the Cervino and the Mont Blanc and the various activities available all year around.
how to classify it?
Crans-Montana can be seen both as a small mountain village and an alpine city. In fact, it combines the comforts of a modern holiday destination, the wonders of nature and the Valois Alps landscapes. Winter is the perfect season to enjoy this wonderful place: from the upland, the ski area, with 140 km of easy, intermediate and advanced slopes, goes up to the Plaine Morte glacier, 3000m above the sea.
Directly outside of the forest, the wide slopes are perfect not only for beginner skiers but also for off track enthusiasts. The La-Toula chairlift takes advanced skiers to the wide carving slopes and to the Pista Nazionale, a 12km long slope, the longest of the whole region. Cross-country ski lovers can enjoy 20km of tracks. A cross-country track is set up over the famous golf course, while the Bluche track, through the woods, goes from the Moubra Lake all the way to the ski area.
Besides ski and cross-country ski, at Crans-Montana you can also have fun with the sledge or try the airboard: an inflated sledge made of synthetic material, instead of wood, which you can ride either laying on your stomach, sitting or on your knees.
Not just ski.
This fascinating Swiss vacation spot is also appreciated for the different opportunities it offers: the best shopping area of the Alps, a worldwide famous cultural and meeting center, different types of accommodations, and sport events, especially golf, represent the modern side of Crans-Montana and are an attraction for tourists from all over the world.
Around here golf has a long-standing tradition: on the Crans plateau there is an 18 holes golf course, the Severiano Ballesteros, famous for its breathtaking view. These golf courses during the winter season become a paradise for cross-country ski lovers. As you can see, it is possible to enjoy Crans-Montana also in the warmer season.
In fact, besides the most common activities like hiking, tennis and squash it is also possible to go canyoning, rock climbing, waterskiing and paragliding.
