Adelboden, a town struggling between past and present


Adelboden, with a population of 3000 inhabitants, is a Swiss village in the canton of Bern in the Oberland region. Located at the bottom of the valley of the river Engstligen, this small town is known all around the world for hosting alpine skiing races.


Despite its many shops and services, throughout the years the town has kept the typical features of small mountain villages with wide valleys, forests and uncontaminated peaks like the Wildstrubel (3244m), the Grosstrubel (3242m) and the Steghorn (3146m).


Adelboden, together with Lenk, in the Simmental Valley, is the largest ski area of Berner Oberland, with snowy slopes suitable for every type of skier. In the district of Boden, the “Kuonigsbergli" slope usually hosts the Men’s Super-G during the Alpine Ski World Cup.

The ski area

Among the different and various activities available in Adelboden, skiing is probably the most popular. The ski area consists of 6 cabinways, 11 chairlifts, 27 skilifts, 6 cabin lifts and 22 tapis roulants
The area around Adelboden has options for every type of skier or snowborder: from the most experienced to the absolute beginners.

The slopes

Ski enthusiasts can enjoy the 210 km long slopes, 92 of which easy, 96 intermediate and 22 advanced. For cross country ski lovers 22.5 km for classic and 24 for skate cross-country ski. While the 14.7 km long sledge run offers sledge fans plenty of fun and action.
The Chuenisbärgli peak, famous for being one of the world’s most difficult ones, is home to the Giant Slalom race. You can reach this slope with the “Hahnenmoos” cabin lift, one of Europe’s most long ones.


The Gran Masta Park is the perfect place for snowboards and freestyle lovers.
In April, the Engstligenalp hosts the snowboard race “Closing the Wall”. During the winter seasons various events are held in the Oberland region. Starting in December with the night time ski hike. Later on, in February, takes place the "Horasclitta Rena", a thrilling sledging race.

As you can see this wonderful town of Western Switzerland offers various activities. Besides being suitable for all kinds of skiers and snowboarders, Adelboden is also great for those who don’t like snowsports.
